The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) took the opportunity, through the GAMES project, to make changes in gender equity matters within the Hellenic sport organisations.

The HOC Action Plan guaranteed changes in its policies and procedures such as a 50% gender representation in all HOC Standing and Extraordinary Commissions. The latter will enter into force as of the upcoming HOC elections in January 2025. Additionally, Board Members and staff were educated on Gender Equity laws through seminars and workshops and the IOC guidelines were translated to Greek. Moreover, a communication campaign promoting and encouraging women to participate in sport leadership positions took place. A special attention was given to support elite athletes / parents who participated in TOKYO 2020 and PARIS 2024 Olympic Games by organizing two annual awards events and securing an allowance by the HOC.

The GAMES project, coordinated by the EOC EU Office, greatly supported the HOC in implementing significant changes and important actions for more equal gender participation in leadership positions within only one Olympic cycle.

Stay tuned to find out more on the legacy of the project.
