The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) submitted its National Action Plan (NAP).
The Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC) is a partner of the Erasmus+ project “Guidance to Achieve More Equal leadership in Sport” (GAMES).
Within the GAMES’ project framework, the HOC has developed a National Actions Plan to promote gender equality in leadership positions which has been informed by the GAMES’ Pool of Actions, as well as from the national trends that emerged in the GAMES baseline study.
The National Actions Plan is a strategic document which includes the NOC’s objectives and relevant actions to reach set objectives whilst also addressing targeted actions for member organisations to improve gender equality in leadership positions. In other words, the National Actions Plan includes a roadmap for setting up concrete strategies including tangible actions and measurable timelines to improve gender equality in the leadership of the NOC whilst also including ad-hoc actions to encourage member federations of the NOC to boost gender equality in leadership and decision-making positions.
HOC’s National Actions Plan is structured in three pillars: The first pillar “Structural changes in Governance” foresees the implementation of gender equality in the HOC’s HR policies and practices. The major action under this pillar is the increase of female representation within HOC’s seven Standing and Extraordinary Commissions by setting a 50% quota for each gender, in each Commission separately. The second pillar “Pathways for women” is based on the education and training of HOC staff, members of the HOC’s seven Standing Commissions and of its Plenary Session, on gender equality. The third pillar “Communication and Engagement”, aims at increasing HOC’s recognition and experience in the field through the conduct of events, conferences, a public awareness campaign, as well as through the participation in existing working groups and initiatives, and EU projects related to gender equality in sports.
HOC’s National Actions Plan was approved by the Plenary Session on June 7th, 2023. The National Actions Plan was presented to the HOC personnel at the staff meeting dated June 12th, whereas separate meetings with the involved Departments are to be held within July. Moreover, HOC will be conducting the National Launching Event on November 7th, 2023.
